What is an Addon Domain?

An Addon Domain is a fully functional domain that can be added inside cPanel. Think of it as having multiple hosting packages all sharing the same cPanel. Once you have successfully setup an Addon Domains you can create email addresses for the new domain the same way you do for your primary domain.

HostUpon offers unlimited Addon Domains on the Business and Premium hosting plans.

An Addon Domain created in cPanel will only function if the domain is registered and pointed to HostUpon Name Servers.

You can either purchase a new domain name from HostUpon or use a domain you have registered elsewhere as long as you have pointed it to our name servers.

How Addon Domains Display for Your Website Visitors

When visitors arrive at your  addon domain, there is no visual evidence that it is an addon domain. The addon domain will act as an independent domain, with no references to the primary domain.

primarydomains.com will be separate from addondomain.com in the address bar of your visitors web browser.

When creating an addon domain, 3 things happen:

  • a folder is created in the public_html directory
  • a subdomain is created for the primary domain and attached to the new folder
  • the new domain name is associated with the subdomain

This all happens automatically when an addon domain is created in cPanel.

Note:

Any Addon Domains you add share the resources of your hosting plan.  For example, if you’re on the Business plan and host your primary domain along with 5 addon domains they will all share the resources of your Business hosting plan.
