Primary Domain Name Changes

What is the Primary Domain Name?

Your primary domain name is the domain you selected to use when you first setup your hosting account at HostUpon.

Can I change my Primary Domain to another domain name I own?

It’s technically possible to change the primary domain however it is not recommended.  Even if you no longer wish to use your primary domain or if it has expired you do not need to do anything.  Your other domains will continue to work normally.  There is no added benefit to changing your primary domain.

I still want to change my Primary Domain name

If you still want your primary domain name changed there is a one-time fee of $15.  You can order a Primary Domain Name Change here.

Before you request to change the primary domain name here are some things to note:

  • Your cPanel username and password will remain the same.  You cannot change your cPanel username even if you change the primary domain name.  The only way to change the cPanel username is for us to terminate your hosting account and provide a brand new hosting account.
  • If you want to use an existing Addon Domain and convert it to the Primary Domain then you must first remove it from the Addon Domains section in cPanel.
  • After your primary domain name change has been completed your new primary domain will load your website from the public_html folder.  This means that if your files are in another directory you will need to move them to the public_html folder.
Warning:

Primary Domain Name changes are at your own risk.  If your website ‘breaks’ you will need to speak with your website developer.  Our support team will not be responsible for any damages caused to your website.
